Welcome to my world of makeup, sweet scents and real talk. You should always have a cuppa to hand and sit back and enjoy a little snippet of my world! REVIEW | BEAUTY BAKERIE LIP WHIPS

I've heard nothing but great things about these liquid lipsticks from Beauty Bakerie, so I had high expectations! Let's start from the beginning. Beauty Bakerie is a USA black owned brand that embraces the sweet and friendly nature of makeup - rejecting the 'bad ass' route the industry seems to be going. Reading about the company, it appears that the owner 'Cashmere' wants to live life to the full and as bright as possible after battling through some hardships. Their website seems to reflect this as it appears light, bright and fun.

New liquid lipsticks are released almost weekly, so when I heard about the company Beauty Bakerie I was intrigued by their *Lip Whip formula. I recently purchased three new liquid lipsticks from their range. A regular matte and two new metallic finishes.

I would love to give a glowing review of these products that reflect the overall aesthetics of the company - but I'm going to have to say that this one sadly will be a mixed bag.

Let's start with the original matte formula. I purchased the shade Raspberry Tiramisu Lip Whip which is a very deep berry colour in the packaging. On initial application I noticed that these were not as opaque as I thought they would be. This particular colour was actually quite sheer and I had to coat my lips three times for me to get the desired deep berry shade I was expecting. Another disappointment for me was the actual wear of these lip whips. Don't get me wrong - these are very long wearing, however I did find that they slightly crumbled during the day and therefore wore off in parts and became patchy.

The other two lip whips are the new metallic formulas. I purchased the shades Space Cake (a metallic navy blue shade) and Cinnamon Roll (a metallic brown copper shade) which are both pictured below.

Unfortunately I'm not a fan of this lip whip formula. I find that they are very thin and patchy when applying and I have to apply about 5 layers to get an opaque finish. The instructions on the website says that you need to wait for 5 minutes before applying the next layer. To be completely honest, these are a complete disappointment to me. For me personally, any product I have to wait for 5 minutes before layering, is too much faffing around!  Also the simple fact that I have to keep layering these makes them uncomfortable to wear.

If I were to choose my preferences between the original matte finish and the metallic, I would say that the original matte is definitely a much better formula. It feels a lot more comfortable to wear, despite the layering. As these dry down completely matte, they can be a bit of a challenge to remove but that's easily resolved with an oil based remover.

One thing I have to say that I love about Beauty Bakerie is their packaging. They resemble a whipped product on the plastic which is great! The lip whips do not seem to have a sweet scent to them which I was a little surprised about, in fact they seem to have a more chemical scent to them.

These lip whips retail for £14.95 from Love Makeup, which is where I purchased mine from.

Have you tried these? Let me know what you think!

#MYMELARICHESTORY | NEW BRAND LAUNCH FOR WOMEN OF COLOUR IN THE UK!

A couple of months ago I wrote a post talking about the problems with the UK drugstores. My main issue was the lack of acknowledgement these stores show towards catering products for women with a deeper skin tone.

Unfortunately, my experience with beauty shopping here in the UK doesn't just reflect negatively towards the UK drugstores. In fact it seems that regardless of where I shop, I will always hit a wall.

Last year I visited a big beauty tradeshow. It was my first time going and I was very excited. That excitement did not last long. As I was walking around I started to notice that if I was looking for complexion or hair products in particular, I was limited to only three stalls and even then only one of those had a wide range of tones for deeper skin tones or their products were able to be used on afro hair. I remember asking a few stalls if they had shades for my skin tone (after waiting to be attended to!) and they gave me a very apologetic glare and shook their hands and said 'no' or 'sorry we don't'. Well - that told me! I started to feel like this wasn't a place for me. Needless to say I didn't stay there for long.

This is a common tale amongst many women and men, whether you are the lightest or the deepest of skin tones. The lack of provision is quite clear to see. Now I know that the UK is probably much better than other European countries with regards to what's being offered here, but being 'better' does not equate to being the best - we still have a long way to go.

Now more recently we have seen how the market has started to waken to the fact that diversity is to be celebrated. From the wider shade options starting to become more widely available to the use of a range of skin tones being used to model products. Diversity is becoming cool. Let's hope this is not just a fad.

I started Beautybreakswithvicky to make noise about this issue. But most importantly to show that you know what? I may not look like your typical girl next door blogger, however I am a consumer. As a consumer I was not happy. So I wanted to see what the market had to offer and bring that to you all. And of course I just love my beauty products! I love talking about new products and launches especially when it's for the underrepresented.

This where *Melariche step in! A few months ago I was contacted by the company Melariche (pronounced 'mel-uh-reesh) about their new company and they shared their vision with me. It was great to see a new company that - just go it! Melariche understood the frustration.

Melariche are a new company that cater the products they stock to deeper skin tones. They are an online store that will be stocking both makeup and skincare products mostly from black owned brands that are curated to meet the needs of darker skin tones. To say I'm excited about this is an understatement! They were kind enough to send me a *package of some of the goodies they stock and I have to say I'm highly impressed. Check out my unboxing below!

I'm sure that many of us regardless of skin tone, gender, size, hair type have all shared similar experiences. For once it's great to not feel like the after thought by a company.

Let me know your thoughts below!

Melariche were kind enough to provide my readers with a discount code 'BEAUTYBREAKS' (not affiliated) to use at check out.

MY EVERYDAY WORK MAKEUP ROUTINE | SIMPLE & NATURAL

Hi loves!

Today I'm writing this post from an unusual setting. I'm at the train station, sitting waiting for my train to arrive. Now whilst I'm here it got me thinking about what to post this week. I've been thinking about the rapid changes in terms of how quickly it gets dark and how I'm now waking up for work and it's still dark (urgh!). Now of course I'm not the only one who has that dreaded season change feeling, so I thought I'd share with you my hassle free go to beauty products I use when getting ready at 6am!

As most of us don't have the luxury of time in the mornings (myself included) this is going to be a real and relevant post for you! In the field of work I'm in, if I came to work with a full face of makeup they'd think I've got a date or a job interview. So to be honest I keep it simple and quick. Natural makeup is key for me.

Before I start I thought I'd add this little disclaimer. This is a routine I do as someone who wears makeup everyday. If you don't then this would probably seem like a lot to you.

So let's get started!

1. I start with my primer. I always prime. No matter how long I've got to do my makeup it's essential for me. Otherwise I'd be a grease ball by 6.30am when I get to the station! My favourite primer for everyday is my Becca Ever Matte and Poreless primer as it's like bullet proof protection for my oils. I love it! I apply this to my t-zone only as that's where I get oily and I do so using a patting motion instead of rubbing it in. It's the best way to apply it. Trust me.

2. Then I move onto my foundation. Now I tend to use certain foundations for work (those that are more full coverage but not heavy as I don't conceal), more recently it's been my Max Factor 3-in-1 All Day Flawless foundation in the shade Sun Tan. O-M-G. I think I've discovered my holy grail drugstore foundation! This foundation keeps me matte all day without looking dull. Paired with the primer- AMAZING. Honestly - I've just finished a bottle of this foundation after wearing it for 3 weeks straight! Don't worry though I've got a back up. I'll be doing a proper review and application on my YouTube channel very soon.

3. Next step is to set my face and bronze. To do this I use two foundation powders. Both from Esteè Lauder. They are the Double Wear Foundation powders and they're my favourite go-to powders to set my foundation. I use the shade Sandalwood all over my face and the darker shade Rich Mahogany around the perimeters and cheeks as a bronzer to bring back definition. I then add a light dusting of my blusher (I'm using MAC Raizin currently which is my favourite). Quick and simple!

4. Of course I have to fill in my brows. To do so more recently I've gone back to using my Anastasia Beverly Hills dip brow pomade - just to finish it really. I normally use my Cailyn cosmetics gelux brow product which is my favourite. Brows take me a couple of minutes to do. I tend not to fuss too much with them.

5. Next is eye shadow. Now you're probably thinking 'huh?!'. Trust me this takes 30 seconds! I literally use my finger to apply a darker brown shimmer shadow onto my lids. Voila! Shadow done. Sometimes if I'm feeling a bit adventurous I'll take a fluffy blending brush and quickly buff into my crease a dark brown or black matte shadow. If I don't want to use a shimmer shadow then I normally stick to a brown matte or reddish brown matte shadow and apply that all over my lids. Then I apply mascara. No liner. I used to always use a liquid liner but nobody's got time for that!

6. Now of course I wasn't going to leave without a highlight. I just dab my fave morphe brush I use to highlight into my Makeup Revolution Rose Gold vivid baked highlighter and lightly brush above my cheeks.

7. I quickly spray my face with my NYX stay matte setting spray, then if I can be bothered apply my chosen lipstick or (more often than not) leave the lippy for the train! Above you can see my typical lip colour choices. Most days I keep it neutral toned, but there are the odd few days where I want to add a bit of colour!

That's it! It seems a lot when writing this but believe me when I say I do this in under 10 mins. I personally hate carrying a makeup bag to apply my makeup on the train or bus or even at work. So I always give myself that extra time to get ready at home! This makeup routine allows me to work a full day and 12 hours later when I get home I'm not oily or greasy. I love it!

I'll be filming my work makeup routine soon on my channel so you can see how quick it really is!

Hope you enjoyed this post.

Have a great weekend :)

SECRET SCENT BOX | MONTHLY PERFUME SUBSCRIPTION?

Hi loves!

Hands up if you're really feeling the change in season! I really am. I personally hate when seasons change, as I feel like I have to prepare and clear out so much junk. However, Autumn (or Fall for some of my readers!) has to be my favourite season. I love the fact that I can start wearing a jacket and boots again, without shivering whilst doing so! Summer is just too stressful for me to be honest - I'm not a heat lover.

Now, why did I start talking about the weather?! I'm actually here to talk about a new subscription service I've decided to try out. *Secret Scent Box is a new monthly UK fragrance box subscription, which provides you with new branded perfumes and colognes each month. You receive a 30 day supply of three fragrances (9 ml total) for £15 a month in a letterbox friendly package.

I've heard of subscription boxes for perfumes in the past, and I've always wished the UK had something like that as I do love my fragrances! So when I heard about the the Secret Scent Box I just had to try it.

This month I received 4 fragrances (the additional bottle was a gift for being one of their first subscribers). I received Versace Vanities, YSL Mon Paris and Burberry Touch for Women (x2), all EDP and were all packaged in a 3ml plastic sample spray bottle with a label attached to the plastic.

The great thing about this subscription box is that there is a male and female version, so it would be great as a gift to a partner or a friend.

The only improvement I'd make to this service is the packaging. I love the little box the perfumes come in, but I think I would have preferred having one vial of perfume per month with a nice carry case to place the vial into. That way we could have a 30 day supply of one perfume with a much more aesthetically pleasing packaging. However, I also am aware that this is a new company so I'm looking forward to seeing the developments they make in the future.

As mentioned previously each monthly subscription is £15 per month. To get 15% off of your first months box use the code FRIENDS15 (not affiliated) here.

Have you tried this yet?

MAKEUP OBSESSION by LIVE LOVE LONDON | BUILD YOUR OWN PALETTE!

Hi loves!

So TAM beauty have done it again! It seems that just when I feel like there's nothing else I want, bam! They bring out something else!

*Makeup Obsession by Live Love London is a new brand which specialises in the area of personalisation when it comes to makeup. They have released a range of eyeshadows, contour powders, highlighters and blushers as single pans, that you can select and use to create your own palette.

Alongside the single pans they have also released a set of empty palettes. Now these are not your typical magnetic palette, but they are a palette that you can slot the pans into. They come in different sizes with different finishes. I purchased the rose gold large palette and the silver metallic large palette. Both have a large mirror inside too which is great!

The palettes range from £5 to £8, whilst the single pans range between £2 to £3. The pans each hold 2g of product which is 0.2g more than a standard Makeup Geek eyeshadow single pan! So another bonus of this new release? It's affordable and you get a decent amount for your money. I'm all for affordable beauty and accessible products and TAM beauty continuously ensure this happens in the beauty community.

Now I haven't had the chance to play around with these shadows yet, but I have done a few cheeky swatches and so far I'm impressed! They swatched beautifully with great pigmentation. Big thumbs up!

I'm keeping this short and sweet as I'm yet to play with these beauties, but I have to say that I'm really excited about this brand!

Here's a list of the shadows I chose:
Rose Gold Palette (I decided to arrange this as my more earthy warm tones)
- Midnight black
- Dark chocolate
- Burnt
- Ginger
- Highlight Gold
- Starstruck
- Cosmo
- Honey
- Rich
- Luxe
- Bullet

Silver Metallic Palette (This is arranged as my cool toned colour palette)
- Bourbon brown
- Cinnamon
- Contour shade Dark (although not deep enough for my skin tone)
- Mood
- New York
- Miami
- Emerald Fizz
- Precious Metal
- Moonshadow
- Azura
- Denim
- Tropez

Are you excited about this new brand? I'm already planning my next palette! These are now available online at Boots.com website and in Boots stores from Saturday 17th September!

NEW LAUNCH | BODY MIST BY SO...?

Hi loves!

Earlier this week I was invited to an early preview of the new *Body Mist fragrances by So...? The cult fragrance brand (which were a staple in my school bag a few years ago!) are launching a range of easy to wear body mists that have a fresh fruity and floral scent to them. They are described as fragrances that 'indulges your senses and immerses you in aromas ranging from the deliciously fruity to the beautifully floral'.

The fragrances come in six gorgeous scents:

  • So...? Floriental (a cocktail of floral and fruity notes with pear, apple and mandarin mixed with a medley of freesia, violet, caramel and amber)
  • So...? Fruity (a zingy mandarin, peach and lily scent, rounded off with cedar wood)
  • So...? Vanilla Milkshake (a mixture of peach, plum, rose and vanilla - a classic scent!)
  • So...? Watermelon (a blend of watermelon, red berries, apple blossom, apricot, honeysuckle and sugar candy)
  • So...? Fresh musk (fruity top notes of mandarin and peach, with a floral mixture of jasmine and lily and blend of cedar wood and creamy vanilla)
  • So...? White Petals (a mixture of bergamot, freesia, water lily, white musk and cedar wood)

Each body mist comes packaged in a very sleek, light and bag friendly clear bottle, with the main scent image appearing through the bottle. The fragrances are each 100ml and will retail for £3.99 exclusively at Superdrug stores from 26th of September 2016

I was gifted 3 of these fragrances, unfortunately I accidentally received two of the same fragrances! Although I'm not complaining as I love these scents!

The body mists have a strong scent to them, meaning that a little definitely goes a long way. I found that they lasted well too as I wore the White Petal scent (my favourite!) throughout the day today. These are great fragrances that will definitely have a place in my handbag once again!

Thank you So...? for the lovely evening and gift.

WHAT'S NEW IN BEAUTY | SEPTEMBER 2016!

Hi loves!

So I'm really not feeling great today and to be honest I nearly didn't write this post... but I couldn't let you guys have a Friday night without hearing from me! Anyway *cough* - I was thinking that each month I'll post a sort of What's New update. Now I wouldn't have been able to try these products, as quite frankly I'm not as 'cool' as those bloggers - apologies - 'influencers' that receive the blogger mail from every company! So we'll stick to the good old chit chat and day dreams...

The first release I want to talk about is the new Estèe Lauder and Victoria Beckham collaboration. This new collection is released on September 13th internationally and it's highly anticipated. To be honest when I first heard about this collection, I was so excited and had already created a mental list. However, that list quickly diminished when I realised how much the collection ranges from! This exclusive limited edition will set you back anything between £22 (a lip liner or a lip pencil) to £68 (illuminating creme or eyeshadow palette). Now this is definitely a stunning collection and if you can afford it I'd say it's something to keep in your collection. If I were to get anything, I think I'd purchase the 'Modern Mercury Highlighter' which will retail for £48, which was part of a previous Estèe Lauder limited edition release. The eyeshadows also look stunning too!

Now speaking of highlighters, Jouer have just released their new powder highlighters. They retail for £19 each and they have three shades in the range - Citrine (a glimmering gold), Rose Quartz (chromatic champagne pink) and Topaz (a warm-toned rose gold). Now, I have to be honest and say that I have actually purchased these highlighters (I had to I couldn't resist!) and I can't wait for them to arrive. From the swatches, they appear to be more like a creamy powder as they do not appear to have much, if any, fall out. They're also packaged in a gorgeous gold packaging. Now Jouer seem to be on a roll, and have also released some new lip products. I got most excited about their new lip topper shade called 'Tan Lines', which is described as a 'metallic shimmering bronze'. Now this shade looks like it would be great for deeper skin tones, so that's why it also went into my shopping cart yesterday! I purchased these new releases from Cult Beauty using the discount code YOU15 for 15% off (not an affiliate code).

Ok so I wasn't the biggest fan of Huda Beauty's latest release, her liquid lipsticks (you can check out my review here). However, when I saw that Huda was releasing an eyeshadow palette I just knew that I had to pay attention to this release! Now I don't know much about this release other than she is releasing an eyeshadow palette called the Textured Shadows Palette and her first release in this is the Rose Gold Edition. There are 18 eyeshadows in the palette with a range of finishes (foiled, shimmery/satin and matte according to Trendmood). The packaging of this palette looks stunning, just like Huda's other product releases, she definitely pays much attention to detail in that arena. Unfortunately as I am writing this the exact release date and price are not yet available, but I'll update you when I know more!

Finally - I think this was my most highly anticipated release. MAC cosmetics have collaborated with the very beautiful and talented actress Taraji P. Henson. They have released a collection even Cookie would be proud of, consisting of a lipstick (Strip Me Down - matte), mascara, eye liner, mineralise skin finishes in a lighter highlight shade and deep reddish bronze shade and a duo fibre brush. This was always going to be a popular release, so unfortunately the powders are now out of stock online, however I'm hoping to see them in store soon!

So that's it from me this month! There are so many exciting releases, but let's remember to choose wisely (ha! I should take my own advice!)

REVIEW | NARS LIP COVER 'OVERHEATED'

Hi loves!
So one of my favourite lipstick formulas has to be that of the Nars Audacious lipsticks. They are a rich and creamy but long lasting formula which does not dry out my lips. At this point I should probably state that I'm referring to the traditional lipstick, the ones in the bullet type packaging (I forgive you for thinking otherwise since traditional lipsticks are going out of trend so quickly!)

Now when Nars released their limited edition summer 2016 collection, I'll be completely honest and say that I didn't really think much about it. It was only a few weeks later when I came across Kathleen Light's favourites video and saw that she had mentioned that she loved the Nars
Lip Cover formula, that I decided to take a closer look at the collection. I'm so glad I did!

This is the Nars Lip Cover which is described as a 'high pigment liquid lipstick. High fashion effect. Lip Cover delivers saturated slicks of coastal colour steeped in exclusivity and ease.'. Now, quite frankly I have no idea what that description actually means, so let me give you a more realistic and simpler description!

These are basically a Nars Audacious lipstick, in a liquid formula. There. Simples. On the Nars website, they also describe them as having a 'rich and lustrous, luminous finish', which I completely agree with. As it suggests, these do not dry down matte and nor are they tacky (thank goodness! I'm not sure how many more tacky matte liquid lipsticks I can take!) but they leave a creamy, demi matte finish to the lips.

The liquid lipstick is packaged in a slim line tube, with a doe-foot applicator. I have to say that the applicator is probably the thing I dislike the most about these liquid lipsticks. It is quite small and hard, as opposed to a more wider and fluffy applicator like some other liquid lipsticks I have tried.

I purchased the colour 'Overheated', which is described as a deep dusty rose shade on the Nars website, and I have to agree. This is a great brown/pink tone for deeper skin tones to wear on an everyday basis without it looking too garish. The formula is very long lasting, as I found that even though it did not dry down matte, and it transferred, the liquid lipstick remained on my lips for a good 4 hours without application. Even after the 4 hours I did not need to reapply as I still felt the product on my lips, it had just lost its vibrancy.

Personally, I would recommend using a darker lip liner when using this shade, however, this would not look terrible without it. This is rare for such a colour, so Nars have definitely done a great job in creating this shade.

Would I repurchase this? Yes! The only thing I wish Nars would do (apart from changing the applicator) is to make this a permanent formula in their line. Please Nars? Just for me *wink*

There are four shades available in the range. They retail for £21.00 and can be found on the Nars website.

Let me know what you think about these if you've tried them!

BEAUTY STORAGE 101 | REALISTIC WAYS I STORE MY MAKEUP COLLECTION!

Hi loves!

So today we're talking all about storage! Now if you are an avid makeup junkie like me, you know that storage can be one of the biggest issues (aside from your bank balance!). I feel that over the years I've had to change and adapt my storage techniques as my collection grew. Infact, I've had to be more creative with how I store my products - anything and I mean ANYTHING that looks like it could remotely hold a blusher or lipstick is going to be used!

Well, I thought I'd share my top 7 storage ideas I actually use. I've read a few posts like this in the past, and I'm sure that some people don't actually store their makeup the way they claim - I mean I recently saw a pinterest picture of beauty sponges being stored in a cake stand (really?!)

So let's talk about it...

1. The cup

Now makeup junkies know that normal household items are no longer used as they are intended. Let's take my trusted cups! I no longer shop for mugs for my coffee intake at home (infact, I actually don't drink hot drinks at home anymore!), now I look for the perfect mug - for my lipsticks and eyeliners! This is a great way to store liquid lipsticks and lip pencils. The prettier the mug the better! I love this one by Emma Bridgewater that I was gifted by my cousin at Christmas - having my name on it makes it even more special!

2. The bath

Yes you read that right - I said 'bath'! Ok, don't worry I haven't gone crazy and started storing makeup in my actual bath (although at the rate I'm going...). I did however, find a lovely plastic storage bath unit in Wilkinson's recently and I just knew it was going to be perfect! I actually have two of these - one I keep in my bathroom and store all of my skincare products and the one pictured below stores, well, it's supposed to store my everyday concealers, mascaras, primers, and anything else that I decide to throw in there!

3. The boxes

Who remembers the time when subscription boxes were the all rage? Well during that time, I accumulated quite a number and had a small (untidy) pile in the corner of my room. So the other day I decided to have a clear out of my vanity drawers and used the boxes to store my highlighters. I've sorted out my high-end highlighters from my more affordable ones, as well as brands. Boxes are a great way to divide your products in your draws - especially if you can never bring yourself to throw away your small mound of subscription boxes!

4. The blogger draws a.k.a Ikea Alex draws

So you know that almost every beauty blogger / youtuber has the same drawers somewhere in their room. The iconic Alex drawers are definitely a sign of blogger approval (I'm joking by the way - although I won't lie, I did feel more 'bloggy' when I got mine a couple of years ago!). These are great drawers for storing your makeup so that each drawer houses a particular product. For example, I have a concealer drawer, nail varnish drawer, affordable eyeshadow palette drawers, powders drawer, makeup backups (the list goes on). Now to organise these drawers I purchased plastic drawer organisers from Amazon which are great for my needs! I definitely recommend you trying them out!

5. The MUJI drawers

Now one of my favourite ways to store my lippies is in my plastic drawers! Muji drawers are a great way to store any makeup product to be honest, as they are a clear box, so it's great to see your collection, but you can also stack them so you can customise the size of your storage. I use mine to store both my traditional lipsticks and liquid lipsticks. Love them!

6. The candle holder

So candle holders are great for storing a host of different products. From makeup brushes, to pencils, to tweezers - I use mine for everything! I've got a few large candle holders for my makeup tools and I have to say that this ceramic Moroccan inspired one from George at Asda is definitely my favourite! I love the design of this and it's so spacious so holds a lot of my eye and face brushes!

7. The magnet

Oh now this one has to be my ultimate favourite way to store products. That's mainly because I love eyeshadows, and I particularly love building my own eyeshadow palette. So when I finally discovered the amazing world of the magnetic palette I was on a mission to fill the ones I have! I have quite a few to be honest and I'm not sorry! My favourite has to be my Z Palette which I filled with Makeup Geek eyeshadows as it has a clear window so I can see inside, but Makeup Forever also have a great option and Freedom Makeup London (pictured below on top of the Z palette) have just released their version. If you want to declutter your eyeshadow collection, or even blusher, or contour collection then depotting your single items from their packaging and placing them all into a magnetic palette is the best way!

So lovelies! That's it from me. I've shared some of my storage 'secrets' with you (although let's face it nothing's really revolutionary!) Let me know what your favourite storage techniques are below. Have you got some really creative ways? Let's chat about it!
